Youth Division
Our youth division hosts special fundraising events at every show, 50/50 raffles, Tribute Feed tag rebates, movie nights, group activities, fun show classes, and other creative events to participate in. Junior Youth is for ages 13 and under, and Senior Youth is for ages 14-18. Youth ages are determined as of January 1st of the current year.
All youth classes compete in the same events (in their own Junior or Senior category) as the Open and Amateur divisions while accumulating points for High Point and Versatility buckles. Specialty buckles are also given out for ranch horses and cow horses, as well as show horse divisions. Additional weekend class prizes and specialty year-end banquet awards are also given out.
If you are interested in being a part of our youth activities, please contact our youth director-

Graduating Class
Lyndi Miller
My name is Lyndi Miller and I’m graduating from Charlotte High School. I am going to Davenport University for Nursing. Fun facts: I’ve been riding horses since I was 5 years old. I went to my first FQHRMI show when I was 6 and showed the same horse that I show now.
Grace Pribble
My name is Grace Pribble and I’m graduating from Grand Ledge High School. I plan on going to Central Michigan University to study kinesiology to become an Occupational Therapist. My favorite class at FQHR is Working Ranch and my favorite thing about the FQHR shows are all the great people I have met and get to see. An interesting fact about myself is I have shown the same horse all 5 years, and trained him myself as a yearling.
Marina Carroll
My name is Marina Carroll and I’m graduating from Washtenaw Technical Middle College with plans to next attend West Texas A&M. I’m graduating WTMC with a Liberal Arts associates and I am undecided in what to pursue moving forward. As I write this, I’m at the NRCHA Derby in Scottsdale as a part of my current position as an assistant working for million dollar trainer Lance Johnston. I’ve been showing the at FQHR for the past four years and have taken a step back this year to work for one of the industry’s best and better myself as a horsewoman before I step back into the show pen. I’ve gained some great connections through the FQHR, which allowed me to first attend a clinic with Lance that later helped me land this position.
Breeders Classic Futurity
THE MAKING OF A CHAMPION
The Breeders Classic was created to give stallion owners, mare owners, or members looking to purchase a foal a venue to exhibit and be rewarded for their efforts in perpetuating foundation-bred horses. The Breeders Classic Competition and Futurity is for weanlings, yearlings, two-year-olds, and three-year-olds. The points from each year carry over, and the three-year-old with the highest total accumulation of points wins a Jim Taylor Saddle. Younger division winners receive a plaque stating their accomplishments for that calendar year. This two-part program offers exciting opportunities to promote foundation-bred stallions through the Stallion Service Sale and then promote and qualify their offspring for entry into the Breeders Classic Futurity.
How to qualify for the Breeders Classic Competition
1.
Sired by a stallion that was donated to the Stallion Service Sale (Option 1).
2.
Stallion nomination with annual fee (Option 2).
3.
Foal is Michigan member bred, owned, and eligible for FQHR.
4.
Foal is born in Michigan.
5.
Foal is registered by their yearling year.
6.
Foal is entered into the Breeder’s Classic by their two-year-old year.
Two Ways to Participate in this Rewarding Competition
1. Stallion Service Sale
A stallion owner donates a breeding. A mare owner can purchase this donated breeding at a 50% rate (deadline applicable), and the resulting (foundation eligible) foal is automatically entered in the four-year futurity known as the Breeders Classic. The stallion owner receives a free membership to the Michigan FQHR, advertising, and the privilege of one entry of their choice in the Breeders Classic. The SSS are eligible for all four years of the Breeder’s Classic.
2. Stallion Nomination
The stallion owner can pay an annual nomination fee, and any of that stallion’s get (which must be foundation eligible) can be entered into the Breeders Classic Futurity that year. The annual stallion fee must be paid for every year’s foal crop. Usually, the stallion owner pays the nomination fee, but anyone can pay it. The owner of the foal also has to pay an annual entry fee to keep the foal eligible to be shown.
Payment Schedule for Option 2
These fees can be paid in four (4) payments throughout the year as long as ALL fees are paid before September 1st of the calendar year of entry.
The stallion must be nominated for the fee of $150. Foals can be entered for $25.
IMPORTANT MICHIGAN FQHR MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENT
All participating foal owners must have an active FQHR Membership. Foals must be Michigan FQHR Member owned and eligible for registration with the FQHR (see requirements at FQHR.net) and must be FQHR Registered by their yearling year.
